Choose the connection before the accessories
Ask whether the proposed base connects through a compatible telephone service or its own cellular connection. A household internet connection, a mobile phone, and a cellular medical-alert base are different things. Have the seller explain exactly which service the quoted equipment needs and what happens if that connection fails.
Test your apartment—not a brochure distance
In an apartment, make a list of your furthest rooms and shared spaces you use. In a house, include the upstairs bedroom, basement laundry and garden. Ask for the provider’s approved range-testing process during the return window. A stated open-air range is not proof that a signal reaches through your particular walls or floors.
Decide where you will speak and listen
Some setups use a small wearable button to contact a base; others put communication into the wearable. Check where the microphone and speaker are on the exact model. Ask what the monitoring center does when it receives an alert but cannot hear you.
Plan for power, access and everyday wearing
Request the documented backup-power duration and charging instructions. Write down your building entrance, apartment number and an agreed access contact. Ask whether a shower-appropriate option is available and follow that model’s instructions rather than assuming every wearable is waterproof.
